Gold Chop Chop is one of the rare gold Skylanders figures. This valuable figure was produced for the Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure game, but only in very limited quantities. Gold Chop Chop appeared on store shelves next to the regular version of the figure. They appeared at random and only in very small numbers. Due to the figure’s popularity, and scarity Gold Chop Chop soon started appearing on sites such as eBay and Amazon for huge amounts of money.

The Gold Chop Chop Figure

Gold Chop Chop is basically the same as a Series 1 Chop Chop figure, but painted entirely in gold paint. Even the base of the figure is gold. The Toy does look pretty awesome, bit it is important to know that even though the figure looks very different to the regular version, it will appear exactly the same in the video game.

This is different from Legendary Chop Chop, that is gold and blue in color, but actually looks blue and gold in the game itself. Legendary Chop Chop also has different stats.

The Other Gold Skylanders Figures

There are two other gold skylanders that were produced for the Spyro’s Adventure game. These are gold Flameslinger and gold Drill Sergeant. In addition, a gold Flameslinger was also produced for the Skylanders Giants game as an Amazon exclusive. Lastly a special holiday edition of Gold Lightcore Prism Break was produced for Toy’s For Bob employees only. This incredible figure is probably one of the rarest out there.

Gnarly Tree Rex is one of the exclusive Skylanders characters, that is sold only with  specific bundle packs. In The USA, Gnarly Tree Rex Version  is packaged with a special Blue Wii Bundle Pack. This pack contains the special version of Tree Rex, a super cool Blue Nintendo Wii console and Skylanders Giants Starter pack. There is also a super slim version of the Playstation 3 that is bundled with the Skylanders Giants Starter kit containing Gnarly Tree Rex.

Gnarly Tree Rex is essentially the same figure as a regular Tree Rex but painted a different color. Also, the Lightcore color for each figure is different. The Regular Tree Rex has Orangy red bark armor on his head, arm and chest. Gnarly Tree Rex has blue bark armor. Also Gnarly Tree Rex has a darker bark color to the regular version.

When you put regular Tree Rex on the Portal of Power, his laser shooter glows green and his eyes glow blue. Gnarly Tree Rex has green glowing eyes and an orange glowing laser shooter.

Bronze Hot Dog is the latest Skylanders exclusive figure. News from the E3 video game show at the Los Angeles convention centre is that a lucky group of people at the Activision stand are leaving with a very special version of Hot Dog. Many photos of this elusive figure are starting to appear on the internet, and I predict that before long this metallic canine will be  appearing on eBay and Amazon at some ridiculously high prices!

The Bronze Hot Dog Figure

Bronze Hot Dog is basically a regular Hot Dog figure, but painted in a metallic gold color.  We have seen these exclusive figures many times now, that are given away at Toy Fairs and Games shows. Last year at the E3 there was a Chrome version of Spyro, and at this years New York toy fair we saw a metallic blue Chop Chop figure.

The Bronze Hot Dog toy does look pretty cool, and even the base of the toy is covered in the bronze metallic paint. It is important to remember though that even though the bronze figure looks pretty awesome, it will appear in the game like the regular figure.

Punch Pop Fizz is one of the crazy characters from the Skylanders Giants video game. This figure is an exclusive variant, that is sold exclusively with the 3DS Starter Pack for the Giants game. However, you can now pick up single unpackaged figures on sites such as eBay and Amazon. Punch Pop Fizz has been available since the launch of the Giants game, but is much rarer than the regular Pop Fizz figure.

The Punch Pop Fizz Figure

There are three different versions of the Pop Fizz figure, which can be confusing. These are Lightcore Pop Fizz, regular Pop Fizz and Punch Pop Fizz. The lightcore version of the figure glows when you put it on or near the portal of power, and has a slightly different pose to Punch Pop Fizz or the regular version.

Punch Pop Fizz is actually exactly the same as the regular figure, but painted a different color. Punch Pop Fizz is bright red, instead of blue, and appears as a bright red character in the video game itself.

Pop Fizz is a crazy alchemist character, who is constantly blowing things up and causing explosions. Nobody actually knows what he originally looked like, as he has drunk so many of his own potions! When he drinks various potions in the game he can turn into a beastly beserker. He can also throw potions that contain acid, or make little mini potion bottles that can help against enemies.

Polar Whirlwind is one if the rare Skylanders Variants figures that has yet to be officially released in the USA. However, that does not mean that you cannot get hold of a Polar Whirlwind should you wish to. After appearing in countries such as Norway in stores, these elusive figures soon made their way to sites such as Amazon and eBay. Since this figure is scarce for the moment, be prepared to pay higher prices for Polar Whirlwind, until the character finally appears in stores.

The Polar Whirlwind Figure

Polar Whirlwind is essentially the same as a regular  series 2 Whirlwind figure, but painted a different color The series 2 figure was designed for the Skylanders Giants game, and has a different pose from the Series 1 figure designed for Spyro’s Adventure. Whirlwind is an air dragon, who also has some unicorn ancestry. The regular figure looks like a dragon, with pale blue feathers and a unicorn horn. Polar Whirlwind instead is painted a metallic white color.

Jade Flashwing is one of the special variant figures from Skylanders Giants. She is a Target exclusive, that can now be found also on sites such as eBay and Amazon. we had to wait a long time for this figure to finally arrive, but Jade Flashwing was worth waiting for!

The Jade Flashwing Figure

The figure is essentially the same as a regular Flashwing figure but painted differently. Flashwing is a gem dragon, and has wings made of crystals. the regular version of the figure has purple crystal wings and metallic blue scales. Jade Flashwing, as the name suggests has jade green crystals instead and golden scales.

Don’t let the figures beautiful appearance fool you however, this character is one formidable Skylander. She has a whole range of cool attacks to unleash on enemies. She launches crystal shards from her tail spikes and soin around hitting enemies with her crystal wings. She can also summon giant crystals from the ground, these then allow light beams to pass through them, destroying enemies.

The big news at the moment is that Activision have announced their third Skylanders video game, known as Skylanders Swap Force. Skylanders Swap Force is due for release in Fall 2013. This awesome new video game will introduce  16 new Swap Force figures, that you will be able to take apart and combine together in 256 different ways. It will also include 16 brand new core figures, probably two from each Skylanders Element, and 8 new lightcore figures. In addition there will be 16 returning Skylanders known as Series 3 Skylanders. We will go into much more detail about these swappable characters, new figures and lightcore figures in another posts, but today we are concentrating on Series 3 Skylanders figures.

What Are Series 3 Skylanders Figures?

OK, to answer this question, lets go back to the beginning of the Skylanders Franchise! The very first Skylanders game was Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, released in Fall 2011. This game introduced 32 Core Skylanders figures. In addition to these, there were a number of special edition, and legendary figures. These 32 regular figures are the Series 1 Skylanders, and four were produced for each of the eight Skylanders Elements (fire, water, earth, life, undead, magic, tech and air). All the original figures have green plastic at the bottom of the base

In Fall 2012, Skylanders Giants was launched. This introduced 8 Giant figures, 8 Lightcore figures and 24 returning Skylanders.  Therefore 24, of the original 32 Skylanders figure returned for a second time. These figures are known as Series 2 Skylanders. Series 2 figures have a different pose than the original series 1 toys. Some have different weapons, or slightly different appearances. All series 2 figures have orange plastic at the bottom on the base. There is not a huge amount of difference between Series 1 and two figures. The series 2 toys feature a special ‘Wow Pow’ upgrade power, and look slightly different but that is about it.

In Fall 2013, Skylanders Swap Force will arrive. We now know that 16 characters will be returning. These toys will be known as Series 3 Skylanders. Activision’s website states that the returning figures will have new in-game powers and abilities. They also have said that all original Series 1 and 2 figures will play in the Swap Force game. We expect that these Series 3 figures will also have a slightly different pose to the Series 1 and 2 toys, and we also know that they will have blue plastic at the bottom of their base.

We have only seen images of one Series 3 Skylander so far and this is Series 3 Stealth Elf.

Series 3 Skylanders Steath Elf

Series 3 Stealth Elf looks quite different from the original figures. She is wearing a black ninja suit, and a mask that covers half her face, and the top of her head. Series 2 Stealth Elf also carry’s different weapons. She is posed with two large gold weapons. She stands quite differently too, she has one leg up in the air, as if she is in the middle of a powerful kick!

Series 2 Skylanders are figures are Skylanders Characters that were in Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, and then returned again for Skylanders Giants. In the original Spyro’s Adventure game there were 32 Skylanders characters. There were 32 regular figures, and also a number of Legendary figures, and special edition figures. Of the original 32 Skylanders, 24 of these returned in the Skylanders Giants game, and these are the Series 2 Skylanders figures.

How are Series 2 Skylanders Different From Series 1 Skylanders?

When Activision made the decision to bring back 24 characters from Spyro’s Adventure, in the Skylanders Giants game, there had to be something about them that made them different to the originals. However, thousands of people had already invested in series 1 figures of these characters, which do play in the Giants game, so I think Activision had to consider these folks too. It must have been difficult to balance making the Series 2 figures attractive to buy, but not alienating those people who already had series 1 figures.

One of the ways Activision tried to solve this, was to repose the figures. Series 2 figures have a different pose from the original ones.  Many of them also have different weapons. You can easily identify Series 2 figures as they have orange plastic at the bottom of the base, instead of the green plastic of the Series 1 figures. The other thing that Activision did was give these Series 2 Skylanders a special “Wow Pow” upgrade power in the video game itself. In order to keep the people who owned the Series 1 figures happy, Series 1 Skylanders are able to level up from 10 to 15 in the Skylanders Giants game.

In all honesty, I have not bought any Series 2 figures of Skylanders, that I already have Series 1 versions of. I just don’t think there is enough of a difference to warrant spending another $8. However, I did have all the figures from Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, and if I hadn’t I would have probably chosen to buy the Series 2 Skylanders rather that the Series 1 versions.

Series 2 Fire Skylanders

The Fire Skylanders for Series 2 are: Ignitor, Eruptor and Flameslinger. Unfortunately Sunburn didn’t become one of the  Series 2 Skylanders. Sunburn was part of the Dragon’s Peak Adventure Pack.

Series 2 Earth Skylanders

The Earth characters are Bash, Prism Break and Terrafin. The only one not to make it from Spyro’s Adventure is Dino-Rang.

Series 2 Water Skylanders

The water characters are Gill Grunt, Slam Bam and Zap. One of my favorite Skylanders from the original game, Wham-Shell did not make the Giants game.

Series 2 Undead Skylanders

The Undead group are Hex, Chop Chop and Cynder. Ghost Roaster, who was part of the Darklight Crypt Adventure pack did not make it to the second game.

Series 2 Magic Skylanders

The Magic figures are Spyro, Double Trouble and Wrecking Ball. Voodood, unfortunately didn’t make it to the Giants game.

Series 2 Life Skylanders

The life figures are Zook, Stealth Elf and Stump Smash. Camo was the life Skylanders that didn’t become one of the  Series 2 Skylanders.

Series 2 Air Skylanders

The Air Characters are Whirlwind, Sonic Boom and Lightning Rod. Warnado was the figure that didn’t become one of the  Series 2 Skylanders.

Series 2 Tech Skylanders

The series 2 Tech characters are Drobot, Trigger Happy and Drill Sergeant. Unfortunately Boomer is not in the Giants game

Series 2 Lightcore Skylanders

Four of the figures from Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure (Series 2 Skylanders ) were made into Lightcore figures for the Giants game. Lightcore technology is new to the Giants game, and makes the figures light up when put on or near the Portal of Power. This glowing technology does not require batteries and is powered by the portal itself. Lightcore Skylanders have a different pose to either the Series1 or Series 2 versions.

The Series 2 Lightcore Skylanders are Prism Break, Eruptor, Hex and Drobot.

Series 1 Skylanders Figures are those characters released in the first Skylanders game, calle Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. There were 32 Skylanders produced in all for this video game, and in addition there were also some Legendary versions and exclusive limited edition versions, but more on that later!

The 32 original figures belong to eight different Skylanders Elements. These Elements are Fire, Water, Tech, Air, Undead, Life, Earth and Magic. Four Skylanders characters were produced for each of the different elements. All Of the Series 1 Skylanders figures have a green base, as opposed to the series 2 figures which have an orange base.

Series 1 Magic Skylanders

These magic figures all stand on a base decorated with moons and stars. Skylanders belonging to the magic element, all use the power of magic to defeat enemies. The Series 1 Magic Skylanders are Spyro, Wrecking Ball, Double Trouble and Voodood.

Series 1 Fire Skylanders Figures

These Fire Skylanders figures stand on a base decorated in flames. All Fire Skylanders use fire and lava to detroy enemies. The Series 1 Fire Skylanders are Eruptor, Ignitor, Flameslinger and Sunburn.

Series 1 Undead Skylanders Figures

The Undead figures in Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure stand on a base decorated with a Skull. The Skull glows in the dark. Undead Skylanders use the power of the Undead to defeat enemies. The Series 1 Undead Skylanders are Cynder, Chop Chop, Hex and Ghost Roaster.

Series 1 Life Skylanders Figures

Life Skylanders figures have a base that is covered in green leaves. They use the power of living things to damage enemies in the game. The Series 1 Life Skylanders are Stealth Elf, Camo, Zook and Stump Smash.

Series 1 Earth Skylanders Figures

The Earth Element Skylanders have a base that is covered in brown rocks and turquoise crystals. This group of Skylanders use the power of earth and rocks to defeat enemies. The Series 1 Earth Skylanders Figures are Terrafin, Bash, Prism Break and Dino-Rang.

Series 1 Water Skylanders Figures

The Skylanders belonging to the Water Element all have a base covered in  turquoise water. This particular set of Skylanders use the power of water and the ocean to defeat enemies. The Series 1 Water Skylanders figures are Gill Grunt, Zap, Slam Bam and Wham Shell.

Series 1 Air Skylanders Figures

The Air Skylanders figures have a base that is decorated in clouds. Many of these figures use the power of the wind and storms to defeat their enemies. The series 1 Air Skylanders are Lightning Rod, Warnado, Whirlwind and Sonic Boom.

Series 1 Tech Skylanders Figures

The Tech Element group of Skylanders figures all have a base that is covered in dark gray cogs. These Skylanders use the power of technology to destroy enemies. The Series 1 Tech Skylanders are Trigger Happy, Drill Sergeant, Boomer and Drobot.

Series 1 Legendary Skylanders

The Legendary Skylanders have slightly different colored figures. They also have slightly different stats. Legendary Skylanders look different in the video game too. This is different from the special edition Skylanders figures, that might actually look the same as regular  characters in the game. The Series 1 Legendary Skylanders are Legendary trigger Happy, Legendary Chop Chop, Legendary Bash and Legendary Spyro.

Series 1 Special Edition Variant Skylanders

These series 1 figures are often very rare, and can can fetch high prices on sites such as Amazon or ebay. Some of these special edition figures have  been produced especially for event such as toy fairs, other are produced for special promotions or bundle packs and other just appear randomly in stores alongside the regular figures. We hope you enjoyed our post on Tree Rex and his choice of Upgrade path, we are now going to look at the  Skylanders Bouncer Upgrade Path. We already have a post devoted to the Character Bouncer, which you can find under the categories ‘Tech Skylanders” or “Giant Skylanders“. This post focuses purely on his upgrade path.

If you have already players the first Skylanders game called Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, then you will already know that there was only one upgrade path for each character. New to the Giants game was the introduction of a choice of upgrade path. As you will see below the first few upgrades of each character are the same, but then the paths slipt in two, and you can choose one way or the other. This is crucial to how your character plays in the game. You can concentrate on developing one particular area of the characters combat or another.

Bouncer is one of the Eight Giant Skylanders figures, and belongs to the Tech Element group of Skylanders.

Skylanders Bouncer Basic Abilities

These are the abilities that Bouncer starters the game with. These are:

Finger Guns – Bouncer shoots ricocheting rapid-fire bouncy balls

Shoulder Rockets – Bouncer fires rocks from his shoulders that zoom through the air and destroy enemies.

The First part of the Skylanders Bouncer Upgrade Path

You are not given a choice for these first upgrades. These are:

I-Beam - Bouncer fires a concentrated laser bean from his eyes.

Targeting Computer – Bouncer can target his rockets and control where they will land.

Machine Fingerguns – This upgrade allows Bouncer to fire his fingerguns at a much faster rate.

Cooler I-Beam – This upgrade increass the power of the I-Beam and also reduces overheating.

Choice of Upgrade Paths for Bouncer

At this point in the game you can choose to upgrade Bouncer in one of two ways. You can either concentrate on imporving his rocket abilities or his I-Beam abilities.

Skylanders Bouncer Rocket Upgrades

Double-Targets – Bouncer can now target 6 enemies at a time.

Rockets On Demand – This upgrade allows Bouncer to launch unlimited rockets!

Atomic Clouds – This allows Bouncer’s shoulder rocketrs to leave behind explosions that will damage enemies.

Skylanders Bouncer I-Beam Upgrades

Super Machine Fingerguns – This upgrade increases the rate of fire of the Fingerguns further, and they also do more damage.

Professionally Cool I-Beam – Bouncers overheats become slower and the I-Beam does even more damage.

Laser Mines – This upgrade allows Bouncer to drop Laser Mines!

The Soul Gem abilitiy is common to both upgrade paths and this is called Fists Of Destruction. This awesome upgrade allows Bouncer to fire rocket-powered homing fists!
